The missionaries’ roles as the first to bring grapevines and wine to California made our decision to obtain a vast collection of wine history and artifacts an easy one. After a chance meeting between our owner and collector Jim McCormick, the Wine Museum of California was founded at Hotel Mission de Oro.

Jim has always been intrigued by California wine history. After realizing how overlooked and abundant these artifacts were, he amassed, over thirty years, a vast collection of “all things wine.” Eventually, his wish was to share his collection with the public, so many pieces from his collection now call Hotel Mission de Oro their home.
